Position Description
We are seeking a Process Engineer to optimize, maintain, and advance the printed circuit board (PCB) fabrication processes in our Brea facility. The role covers everything from implementing supplier-developed processes, installing and validating equipment, defining process parameters, to daily monitoring and improvements to ensure product quality, efficiency, and consistency.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Design, test, and refine PCB fabrication and rework processes, including chemical, plating, etching, finishing, and protective coatings
- Develop and maintain work instructions, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and safety procedures, especially for processes involving hazardous chemicals
- Train operators on new and revised fabrication and rework procedures
- Develop and perform Design for Manufacturability (DFM) to optimize yield, throughput, and cost
- Monitor key process variables daily (e.g. chemical concentrations, plating thickness, etch rates); perform chemical analyses as needed
- Conduct equipment/process validations and produce validation reports
- Review engineering change orders and update process flows, work instructions, and related documentation
- Identify areas for continuous improvement (yield, process stability, cost, safety) and lead improvement projects
- Support root cause investigations for process failures or defects; implement corrective/preventive actions
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (production, quality, maintenance, engineering) to ensure smooth process flow and meet production targets
Job Qualifications
Required / Preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Chemical, Materials, Electrical, Manufacturing) preferred; or equivalent hands-on experience in PCB or related manufacturing
- 2–5 years of experience in PCB process engineering or related roles involving plating, etching, chemical processes, or finishing
- Strong understanding of PCB fabrication processes (plating, ENIG, etching, cleaning, etc.), process validation, and DFM principles
- Proficiency with data collection, statistical tools, measurement & metrology, quality control, and process monitoring
- Ability to write and review engineering documentation (SOPs, work instructions, safety documentation) clearly and accurately
- Good computer skills including data logging, process control systems, spreadsheets, and reporting tools
- Strong communication skills: ability to train others, interface with operators & engineers, and document process changes and outcomes
- Attention to detail and strong problem-solving ability
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $80,000 – $110,000 (depends on experience, education, skills, and role requirements)
